PRODUCT DESIGN / CREATIVE DIRECTION
NBA ALLSTAR Weekend - IOS / Android
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Getting Started
NBA Tent Pole Events &
Modular Design
Because of how the NBA’s events fit into a calendar year: All Star Weekend, Draft, Playoffs, and Summer League, feature updates and iterative product releases tend to be bundled into those “Tent Pole” events.. As a result, making substantial and meaningful product updates become challenging. The clear and defined dates set clear and unmovable boundaries from a feasibility POV.
That said, meaningful modular improvements become how new functionality and features come to life. Due to the difference in the event lineup throughout the weekend, having a flexible and versatile modular layout allowed for the app to deliver the right content at the appropriate slice of the weekend.
Getting Started
Testing Lofi Feature concepts
Before going deeper into the mid/high fidelity wireframing and comps, collaborative sketching sessions with Design / Product and Engineering to get early feedback on our design approach and feasibility.
Too often, I think teams jump into digital tools and pushing pixels around vs taking the opportunity to get everyone aligned with pens and pads. Aside from being a fun way to get started, it’s also a way to get a good vibe going between stakeholders and cross functional teams.
Design
Relevant and Timely Home Content
Fans crave timeliness and relevant content. Using the Home hero to showcase the latest up-to-the-minute details from the All Star events. The NBA App forces an app update throughout the entirety of the All Star Weekend.
